Raised in the Shenandoah Valley, Penny has always been called to help those who need it most. After feeling unheard and overwhelmed during her first daughter's birth, she was determined to do whatever it took to not let that happen again. She transferred halfway through her pregnancy to a birth center and hired a doula for her second daughter's birth, and was so inspired by the phenomenal care she received by her midwives and doulas throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, that she decided to become a birth doula herself. She is passionate about making sure her clients do not feel judged, but instead feel empowered and confident in any decisions they make. She is certified through Birth Boot Camp as a birth doula and studied undehrough Stillbirthday as a birth bereavement doula.
On the other end of the spectrum, Penny has also felt drawn to assist the elderly and spent several years as a certified nursing assistant in home health care. She has personal experience planning funerals, writing obituaries, and holding space for loved ones and former clients as they journey to the next world. Just as she believes birth is a powerful, sacred experience, so is death. She wants her clients and their families to feel seen, be heard, and know they have someone guiding them over the mountain. She is a certified end of life doula through Doulagivers.
Penny has a bachelor's degree in psychology and an associate degree in education. She is a certified reiki practitioner through Lisa Powers' Academy. She currently lives in Frederick County, VA with her husband, two daughters, and a cat.
